Former AC Milan and Chelsea striker Andriy Shevchenko,has officially retired from football to take up a career in politics.
The Ukrainain revealed this today in a statement,of his desire to quit active football : “This could shock everyone,” he said. “My future is no longer in football.”
The 35-year old Shevchenko,was his country’s leading marksman with 48 goals in an international career that spanned 17 years.
it appeared that his 111th cap for Ukraine on home soil at Euro 2012 championship,against England was his last action for country.
Shevchenko made his debut for Dynamo Kiev in 1994,and went on to earn a reputation as one of Europe’s most lethal strikers with a move to AC Milan in 1999.
But his sojourn to to Chelsea in a record 30 million pounds fee, began his decline and subsequent reclusion from the game.
“I will be going into politics,” the Ukrainian talismanic player said on his retirement. Perhaps the highlight of his career would be winning the Ballon d’Or in 2004,as European player of the year.
