London 2012 Olympics: Nigeria out already even as China wins first Gold medal

Not the kind of start Nigeria would have wished for,as two of Nigeria’s athletes at the London 2012 Olympics,are out of the games. Offiong Edem crashed out of the games,just a day into the Olympics with the Table Tennis athlete losing in her singles event earlier today to be eliminated out of the competition.
Her compatriot Olufunke Oshonaike, after booking a passage to the next round of the competition lost her second game 4-0 to Tan weyling of Italy.
Meanwhile China has won the first Gold medal of the Olympics, with Yi Siling winning the women’s 10m air rifle event, at London’s Royal Artillery Barracks earlier today. Poland’s Sylwia Bogacka took silver and another Chinese finished in the medals zone,with Yu Dan clinching the bronze.
“It’s very exciting. Very happy. I’m very grateful to China. And to my mother and father who I love very much,”Yi the first gold medallist said.
Also today,the first drugs victim was caught at the games after Albanian weightlifter Hysen Pulaku, tested positive to a banned steroid .
“Of course, it is always a sad day when a cheating athlete is caught. We hope there will be no more, but the message is very clear: if you are doping we are going to catch you,” said IOC spokesman Mark Adams.
