2009 NCAA Women's SCIAC Soccer - Cal Lutheran at Occidental (2-1) - September 23, 2009

The United States of America’s women national team, today claimed Gold in the football event, defeating world cup winners Japan,by 2-1 at the Wembley stadium.
Carl Lloyd got both goals for USA to earn the former world champions a hard fought victory over the Asians.
Lloyd latched onto Alex Morgan’s cross, powering home a ruthless header to get her opener for USA, and getting the second from 22-yard out to find the top corner of the net, which took her tally for the tournament to four goals.
Yuki Ogimi got the solitary goal for Japan, but they were unlucky not to equalise,as they saw an effort hit the post in the first half, with Hope Solo at his best for USA,to deny the Japanese a comeback into the game.
It was some sort of revenge for USA, who lost the finals of the World Cup to Japan on penalties last year.
The USA has now set a new record, as the first team to win three successive Gold medals in the Women’s football event at the Olympics, dating back to Athens 2004,Beijing 2008 and now London 2012.
Meanwhile earlier today, Canada defeated France 1-0 to claim the bronze medal.
