Five missing Cameroonian athletes speaks to the BBC from hideout

Five of the absconded Cameroonian Boxers,have disclosed that the reasons for their actions was to stay back in the United Kingdom to develop their careers in the sport.

Officials of the Cameroonian delegation at the London 2012 Olympics,last week reported that seven of their athletes went AWOL and their whereabouts unknown,as they left the Cameroonian camp in London.

The BBC caught up with five of the Cameroonian boxers in a secret location,and they disclosed to the BBC that they deserted their camp, because some of the senior members of the Cameroonian delegation,threatened them.

Like is the bane of African athletes,the Cameroonian boxers :Thomas Essomba, Christian Donfack Adjoufack, Abdon Mewoli, Blaise Yepmou Mendouo and Serge Ambomo – said that there was no support for athletes in their native Cameroon.

One of the boxers Thomas Essomba, said to the BBC: “We are not staying here because we don’t like our country, but (because we)want to practise the sports we love,” he said.

“We want to become professional. We cannot return to Cameroon… if we return, we will not practise anymore,” he said.

Another boxer Blaise Mendouo said : “Cameroonian authorities threatened us – those who brought us to these Games,” he said.

“When a colleague was defeated, he was asked to give his passport.”

Well the boxers have a visa to still remain in the United Kingdom until November.
