Kano Pillars are now in pole position to win the Nigerian Premier League after travelling away to Uyo and getting a win against Akwa United in the week 37 fixture. The victory propelled Pillars to 64 points, ahead of the chasing pack with Nasri Ali getting the lone goal for Pillars in the 56th minute.

It was a day to forget for Rangers,as they suffered a loss against fellow title contenders Lobi Stars, who defeated them 3-0, to all but end the title aspirations of the Enugu based team.
Tony Okpotu got two goals in the game, and Jonah Abutu got the other goal from the penalty spot,to hand Rangers a 3-0 defeat in Katsina-Ala.
Speaking to MTNFootball.com captain of Lobi Stars Terna Ikpeen said :”We were clear of what we wanted and that is the league crown. Rangers also want that too so we knew beating them will take us closer to our target and we did just that in style. We will go for same in our last game away to Kaduna United,”said Ikpeen. The win pushed Lobi into second spot and with just one game to go,the Makurdi team needs a win and will hope that things don’t go well for Pillars, in order to win the title.
Six times champions Enyimba suffered an away loss,to Jigawa Golden Stars, which puts them in danger of not qualifying for any continental championship next season.

Only three teams have already qualified to play in the continent next year,by virtue of their league standings. The trio of Kano Pillars,Lobi Stars and Rangers have all qualified.
