Chelsea have now gone on top of the English Premiership,for the first time in two years after a laboured 4-2 victory over newly promoted Reading.
Eden Hazard continued with his impressive performance from the last game against Wigan,to put up another sterling showing tonight.
Hazard won a penalty,which Frank Lampard clearly dispatched to score his 188th goal for Chelsea and become the club’s all time third highest goalscorer.
But Reading were not deterred as they took the initiative from there and equalised through new Russian acquisition,Pavel Pogrebnyak,who got across Gary Cahill to head home Garath McCleary’s cross.
Reading took the lead through Danny Guthrie from a freekick which Petr Cech fumbled,as the ball found its way into the net to leave the scores at 2-1 going into the break.
It seemed as though it was a night for goalkeeping errors,as Reading’s keeper Adam Federici,couldn’t control Gary Cahill’s 30-yard strike,which drew Chelsea level at 2-2.
With nine minutes left on the clock,Fernando Torres looked to have been clearly offside when he got the third goal for Chelsea to mark his 150th appearance in the English Premiership.
In stoppage time, Federici came out of his lines for a Reading’s corner,but Chelsea quickly launched a counter attack from which Branislav Ivanovic got the fourth goal for Chelsea,his second in two games.
Chelsea will next play against Newcastle in their third game of the season.
