Captain of the Cameroonian national team,Samuel Eto’o, has rebuffed the overtures of the Cameroon FA to lure him back to come and play for the country,saying the team environment is still struggling with “amateurism and bad management”.
Ahead of the 2013 Nations Cup qualifiers against Cape Verde,Cameroon recalled Eto’o,who was on eight months suspension,for championing players strike over unpaid bonuses,which made Cameroon cancel their friendly with Algeria.
“I regret to inform you I’ve decided not to participate in any game with the national team since the flaws I kept denouncing as a captain have not been solved,” Eto’o wrote in a letter to the Cameroon soccer federation published on his website (www.samueletoo-officiel.com).
“The national team environment is still made up of amateurism and bad management which do not suit the requirements for high-level sport,” Eto’o added.
It is left to be seen if World governing body,FIFA, would sanction Eto’o or his Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala,for turning down a national team call-up.
Eto’o remains Cameroon’s leading goalscorer with 42 goals in 87 games
